Wheel-Thrown Pottery

Ceramics

Each of these pieces was wheel-thrown, hand carved or painted, and glazed. For the first piece, I overlayed two glazes to result in a dripping effect, accentuating the curves of the form. For the second piece, I carved out spider webs along the exterior of the mug with a spider at the base hanging from the webs. I inlayed white underglaze and chose a brown glaze finish to provide the dusty feel of the rooms in which most spider webs are found. The third piece was glazed in such a way to mimic the feel of the shoreline, as the form follows smooth curves that may represent a calm sea. The final two pieces compose a breakfast set. I used a white underglaze to create the flowing pattern, an exaggerated and decorative representation of steam coming off of a morning cup of tea and the calmness that it invokes. I chose a grey-tinted transparent glaze to allow the design to show through while still providing color and maintaining the soothing feel.
